PayDay (stylized as "PAYDAY") is a brand of a candy bar first introduced in 1932 by the Hollywood Candy Company. The original PayDay candy bar consists of salted peanuts rolled over a nougat-like sweet caramel center. Since 1996, classic PayDay candy bars without chocolate have been continually produced by The Hershey Company. In 2020, Hershey's released a "Chocolatey PayDay bar"[2] as a permanent part of the PayDay product line; it is identical to the regular bar, but covered by a layer of chocolate.
PAYDAY has a long history of offering chocolate-covered bars in its product line. In the 1980s, when owned by Sara Lee, there was a chocolate-covered PayDay. The Hershey Company has produced a limited version of chocolate PayDay in 2006[10] and the PayDay Chocolatey Avalanche in 2007, which was later discontinued.[11] In August 2020, Hershey's released the Chocolatey PayDay candy bar as a permanent part of the product line.[12]
The Chocolatey PayDay was added to the permanent brand portfolio in August 2020.[2] Chocolatey PayDays contain salted peanuts and caramel and is coated in chocolate candy (not milk chocolate). The chocolatey candy bar is available in two sizes:[12]

UPDATE: It seems that this version was shortlived, but you can still find a mockolate (fake chocolate) covered version called Payday Avalanche that looks to be a permanent addition to the line. (So be aware that some comments to this review are actually referencing the fake chocolate version.)
I am so gald I came across this. My husband loved and misses the chocolate covered payday. Every year we visit Hershey, PA and would always hope to find them again. Now I know that I am looking for something that actually does exsist. Thanks so much!
The chocolate is over powering. I like eating the payday for the very reason it is not covered in rich chocolate. The delicate balance of peanuts and center nugget is greatly is thrown out of wack here. It is an ok candy bar. I preffer no chocolate
I too am trying to find these for my mom. She mentioned in passing recently that the chocolate covered Payday was her favorite candy bar and I want to find some to put inside her Christmas stocking. Any ideas where you can find them now? I live in Colorado but at willing to by a case just so I have them for her for Christmas. Thanks!!!
Unfortunately, the addition of the milk chocolate coating on the Payday, was a minus not a plus. To me, the flavors and textures cancelled each other and left a somewhat bland, sweet and soft result, a candy that more resembled a soft cookie bar, but without the cookie.
The current chocolate payday is NOT the same chocolate that was used int he 80s. The 80s chocolate tasted better but did not stick to the candy bar as well. The current choc. Payday is OK. It does not taste like a BabyRuth
I am told you are NO longer making Chocolate covered Paydays. WHY???? It was the BEST candy bar ever. I have told many people about them. We look for them everywhere. PLEASE bring them back!!! It was the Best Candy Bar EVER!!!!!!!Thank You!!!!My Favorite!!!!!!!!!
While not overwhelmingly salty, the savory and sweet balance is much better than your average super sweet wrapped confection. I really like the way the salt activates the chocolate and complements the fatty nuts.
Back in 2020, I made a lot of Chocolate Pies using this basic recipe. All of them turned out fantastic. When I saw some Pay Day Bars at a grocery store on vacation, I thought about making one of these rich, chocolate pies loaded with Pay Day Bars. Yes, they turned out fantastic.
The PayDay remains a fan favorite to this day. It is sold across North America and appears like it will be around for many more years. It offers users a unique taste of caramel and peanuts that cant be found elsewhere.
The Payday bar was first invented in the year 1932. It is a mark of its popularity that it is still a major candy bar on the market nearly a century later. It may be that the payday continues to survive based on it filling a fairly unique role in the candy bar market. It is a bit different from the more average chocolate or chocolate and peanut combination. That is not to say the payday bar does not add some chocolate to its mix. A chocolate-covered payday bar was also added, giving the payday a bit more variety.
The PayDay Chocolatey Avalanche made its debut in 2007. It keeps the salted peanuts and caramel and adds rich chocolate into the mix. The PayDay Chocolatey Avalanche is delicious, filling and satisfying. However, the Payday Avalanche should not be confused with the normal Chocolate Payday Bar. The Payday Chocolate Bar contains a similar but different chocolate taste, that is often compared to the taste of the discontinued PB Max Bar. The chocolate flavor Payday is crunchy and delicious, it reminds me Personally of a Baby Ruth Bar.
PayDay Candy Bar: It's not bad, but it's not chocolate.Have you ever opened a package thinking you knew what was in it? And been very surprised by what was really there? Yup, wouldn't be the first time for me either. So I bought this chocolate PayDay Bar to put on my chocolate candy website.
Although, I did see on Google that a number of people searched for "chocolate payday candy bar." So at least I'm not the only one who was confused. Actually there is a chocolate-covered version - it's called PayDay Chocolatey Avalanche. But later on that.
The bars have stayed around since then and have even evolved: a chocolate-covered version was introduced in 2020 for fans. A reviewer praised the makeover and enjoyed sampling the new bar (via The Impulsive Buy). They wrote, "While not overwhelmingly salty, the savory and sweet balance is much better than your average super sweet wrapped confection." They added that the addition of chocolate makes the traditional bar taste even better. Yum!
"One of the few chocolate-free candy bars, PayDays consist of salted peanuts rolled in caramel, surrounding a nougat-like center," Food & Wine described. "During the Depression, candy bars were often marketed as meal replacements, and the PayDay, with its peanut-dense outer layer, was one of the more filling options out there."
What's more, the store where the lottery ticket was purchased was handsomely rewarded, as well, by Hershey's with a year's supply of the candy bars at no cost. This was a mark of gratitude for putting PayDay bars into the limelight. Pretty amazing, right?
Hershey's did not really give up hope, though. Its marketing team stated that PayDay is the "hardest working candy bar." Things finally looked up for the product when its chocolate version was launched in the market in 2020. As Hershey's stated, "This PayDay may have a flashy new exterior, but it's the same powerful peanut and caramel under the hood. Together they make a classic candy combination, engineered for maximum crunchy, salty, chocolatey sweetness."
The candy does have some hardcore fans, though. A Redditor from Australia wrote about their opinion on the chocolate bar and said that they were really impressed by its flavors. They said, "Tonight a friend gave me a payday bar that she brought back from the US. Never in my life have I tried anything so amazing." Enough said.
STORE homemade paydays in an air-tight and sealed container in a cool and dry place. You can store them in the fridge, or if it is cool outside keeping them on the kitchen counter should be fine too. You can keep them for up to a week before the bars get hard and inedible.
Soft, chewy caramel covered in salty peanuts...what's not to love? No chocolate in sight, so no need to worry about this bar melting in the heat. Take this bar with you when you are out hiking, biking, and triking. Made by Hershey, so you know they are good.
I loved paydays in college. For some reason during those years they were my go-to candy bar. These cookies sound fantastic because I always thought the only thing to may paydays better was to add some peanut butter!
The worst part about Milk Duds: The name is misleading. In 2008 Hershey changed the ingredients to make production cheaper. So while chocolate is still a part of this candy, it has lost its signature phrase and can no longer be referred to as a candy coated in milk chocolate. 781b155fdc
